b-side · about

hi, i'm niki.

bedroom DJ from the pirate radio years. late-diagnosed, mid-unmasking, writing the whole thing down in public.

i was nine years old with a radio under my pillow, learning the names of session players from horizon, JFM, kiss before it went legal. by thirteen i had two cassette decks and a pause button calibrated to a single frame. nobody taught me to beat-match. there wasn't anybody to teach.

i spent the next thirty years working hard and looking fine. spreadsheets, agencies, meetings about meetings. the records stayed in the bedroom. the brain stayed masked. somewhere in there a marriage, a kid, a burnout, a diagnosis. then another.

njremix is what came after. it's a personal blog about music, memory, ADHD, and the records that raised me — track-by-track essays, scene memory from a corner of west london nobody writes about, and the slow, public business of taking the mask off at 47.

i'm not interested in tidy. the writing here is long, the mixes are unfashionable on purpose, and the playlists follow whatever the dopamine handed me that week. if any of it lands, get on the list.
